How does it work?
Your Watch or iPhone constantly sends out Bluetooth LE signals. Your Mac receives them and measures how strong they are. ProximityShortcuts reads those signal strength measurements, runs them through a Kalman filter to track the trend and estimate whether you're moving closer or farther away, then triggers your shortcuts when you cross the thresholds you set.
Does it drain my battery?
Your Apple devices use Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) for Continuity features like Handoff and Unlock with Apple Watch. ProximityShortcuts just listens passively without requesting anything extra from your iPhone or Watch, so there's no additional battery drain on your mobile devices. The only exception is sudden signal loss: ProximityShortcuts may actively try to reach your device to confirm you actually left. This prevents false triggers from temporary interference.
How is this different from ProximityLock?
ProximityLock can also run shortcuts when you go away, but the main idea was to lock the screen. ProximityShortcuts is an App Store version of ProximityLock but it doesn't have lock screen or screensaver actions built in. These can be triggered via shortcuts you create.
