Does GTM Event Helper work with GA4?

Yes. GTM Event Helper supports GA4 Event tags as the primary tag type. When you select an element and create an event, the extension generates a GA4 Event tag with your chosen event name, along with a matching trigger in your GTM workspace. It also supports Enhanced Conversions for GA4 with automatic SHA-256 hashing of email and phone fields.

Is my GTM data sent to third-party servers?

No. All GTM API calls are made directly from your browser to Google's servers using HTTPS encryption. The extension does not send your GTM data, selectors, or page content to any third-party servers. OAuth tokens are stored locally in your browser's secure storage.

How does the smart CSS selector work?

The smart selector engine automatically filters out unstable identifiers like CSS-in-JS hash classes (styled-components, emotion, CSS modules) and random IDs (React, Angular, UUID patterns). It prioritizes stable attributes such as data-testid, data-cy, role, and name. Each selector shows a stability badge (Stable or May change) and a match count so you know exactly how many elements it targets.

How do I track dropdown clicks or tooltips in GTM?

Use the Freeze Page feature. Press F while in Select Mode to freeze the page state. This captures dropdowns, tooltips, and popups that normally disappear when you move the mouse away. While the page is frozen, hover over and click the target element. Press F again to unfreeze when you are done.

Can I use GTM Event Helper with multiple GTM containers?

Yes. After signing in, you can select any Account, Container, and Workspace you have edit access to. You can switch between workspaces at any time through the extension popup. The extension automatically enables built-in variables (Click Element, Click Classes, Click ID) in the selected workspace if they are not already active.
