What is Hakia?

Hakia started as a semantic search engine in 2004, building AI that could understand the meaning behind search queries. The domain was relaunched in 2023 as a technology education platform. Today we rank 1,704+ accredited degree programs across 20 technology fields and all 50 US states, using federal data from IPEDS and BLS.

How does Hakia rank degree programs?

Our rankings use a 4-factor composite scoring model: program completions (35%), graduation rate (25%), selectivity (20%), and career outcomes (20%). All data comes from federal sources, and our methodology is fully transparent. No school can pay for a higher ranking.

What data sources does Hakia use?

We use three primary federal data sources: the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) for enrollment, graduation, and tuition data; the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS OEWS) for salary and job growth data; and the College Scorecard for post-graduation earnings outcomes.

Is Hakia connected to the original semantic search engine?

No. The domain was acquired in 2023 by a new team with no connection to the original company. We chose to honor the domain's technology heritage by building a data-driven education platform focused on technology fields.
