Why did Doggy Do Good discontinue the Certified Home Compostable bags?

Our home-compostable bags were made from plant-based materials and needed specific composting conditions to decompose; only a tiny number of industrial composters accept pet waste, so most bags still ended up in landfill. Customers also told us that the compostable bags sometimes decomposed prematurely in storage and didn’t perform well when exposed to heat or moisture. We spent two years developing our Landfill-Friendly bags using 50 % post-consumer recycled plastic and an Eco-Accelerated™ formula; this drastically reduces the lifespan of plastic in landfills from 500 years to less than five

How is a Landfill-Friendly bag different from a compostable bag?

Compostable bags are typically made from 100% plant-based materials and are designed to decompose in properly managed composting facilities. However, very few composters accept pet waste, and when compostable bags end up in landfills — which is where almost all pet waste goes — they fail to decompose properly. Instead, they persist much like traditional plastic. Landfill-Friendly bags are engineered specifically for real-world disposal. They are made with a blend of 50% post-consumer recycled plastic and 15% bio-based starches, plus an Eco-Accelerated™ additive that attracts microbes in oxygen

Why did you choose to make Landfill-Friendly bags using recycled plastic?

Plastic recycling rates are very low—only about 9 % of plastic is recycled annually—so we decided to reuse waste plastic. Using 50 % post-consumer recycled plastic reduces demand for new plastic and provides a durable, leak-proof bag. The Eco-Accelerated additive creates chemical signals that attract microbes and expand the plastic polymer so microbes can consume it.

Are Landfill-Friendly bags certified or tested?

Yes. Landfill-Friendly bags have been independently certified in landfill conditions and tested to ASTM 5511 standards by Intertek. Our Eco-Accelerated™ formula is powered by Plasgreen, an organic additive that meets FDA, toy safety, EU REACH and RoHS requirements.

Will these bags leave microplastics?

No. Unlike traditional plastics that photodegrade or bags made with oxo-additives, our Landfill-Friendly bags accelerate microbial decomposition without fragmenting into microplastics or causing harmful residues.
