How do I properly count my pages?
Books and booklet always measure pages by what the reader will see. For example suppose every page had a printed number, starting with the front cover at "1", the inside front cover at "2", all the way to the inside back cover at "23", and the back cover at "24" you would have a 24 page booklet. That may sound simple but many people mistakenly estimate the amount of spreads or sheets used instead.
What is a booklet?
A booklet is printed piece that is bound . It consists of multiple pages ranging up from a minimum of 8.
What is the difference between a book and a booklet?
A booklet usually has a smaller number of pages, and often implies a saddle stitch binding method. However, many different terms are used to refer to this, and it is not uncommon to use the term "book" and "booklet" interchangeably.
What are different type of binding used in making books and booklets?
Saddle stitching using staples is the most common type of making booklets. To make a saddlestitch booklet, multiple sheets of paper are folded in half, nested and stapled together. Perfect binding is also common, and uses glue to make a spine and then is wrapped in a cover that is a separate sheet folded around the spine. This is commonly used among softcover books and can support higher page counts than saddle stitching. Other binding methods include punching sheets and using a plastic spiral or metal O-Rings to fasten the sheets together.
What are spreads and crossovers?
Spreads are multiple pages on either side of the spine. Crossovers are designs that "cross over" the spine to the adjacent page.
Why are saddlestitch booklets only sold in increments of 4 pages?
The saddlestitch binding style uses folds to form a spine. For example, and 8.5x11 page size would require an 11x17 sheet be folded in half and would form room for 4 pages with room for a 2-page spread on either side. A spread consists of 2 pages; one on either side of the spine when opened. If you were considering a saddlestitched book, then those 2-page spreads would be printed on either side of a folded signature (sheet). So an 8.5x11 8 Page Saddlestitch Book is made up two 11x17 sheets, folded in half, and stapled together on the fold. Keep in mind , that just because saddle stitch booklet
